A day for a miracle….

For me this was a busy..average day…

For my Mom…not so much…

The news as of late, hasn’t been cheery..People have been pushed to their limit and killed people. Others looking for payback play with traffic cones and and cost lives and time…Man’s darkest nature has been on full display…

Mom’s experience today gave me hope..

She had a busy day of errands and doctor’s appointments today..After completing a physical she went to the Dollar Store…spent what little money she had on some bare essentials….Then, she moved on to Wal-Mart….yes, that corporate devil Wal-Mart..when you’re broke..your dollar goes further…if you can actually FIND what you’re looking for….

She went to pay for her things with the $10 in cash she had in her wallet…and realized her wallet wasn’t in her purse…The cashier asked her if she wanted to hold her purchases while she checked the car…So Mom made her way to her vehicle to check….Nothing…She didn’t see it…

Now, even a person as strong in faith as my Mom gets a bit nervous…and she did…but through her fear, she prayed….and asked God to bring her wallet back to her…So, she made her way through the ten block long parking lot of Wal-Mart back to her car….(I’m sure it really wasn’t ten blocks but in cases like these, every step seems to take forever)..Mom made her way to the customer service desk…the lady seemed a bit indifferent to her plea…and Mom’s frustration shone through but still, the answer was “No, no one’s turned in a wallet”..Although Mom has no proof, she swears someone stole her wallet there…She made her way back to the Dollar Store..did a quick check inside and they, too..said no wallet…

Well…whatever good news she received about her health from the doctor a few hours before faded from her mind…as all she could think of was the next step in replacing all her valuable information..and as everyone knows..the DMV is a true community picnic…

As she made her way home, she prayed for peace and for comfort at this time..and for her wallet to somehow turn up at one of the places she had been that day…

Mom got her prayer answered…As she pulled in the driveway of her home..her neighbor came out..and pointed to her windowsill…Mom was a bit confused as the man spoke little to no English but only her name….Mom walked over to the windowsill…and there was her wallet….She peeked inside..ALL of her valuable information was in there…Her insurance card..Her drivers license..and her ten dollars in cash…all there…just sitting on the windowsill waiting for Mom to come home…

She has no idea how it got there…and only believes in this day and age, it IS a miracle…

Now, God could have answered her prayer and helped her find her wallet in her car at the Wal-Mart parking lot..but He had something better for her…a chance to show the lengths of His grace, love and mercy by allowing someone else to find it…be confronted with a choice…and then doing the right thing….and this is the miracle..not that the wallet was recovered but there is someone out there who was pressed by the Spirit to do the right thing…and here’s another nugget to take from this story…In Mom’s fear and worry, she still trusted God to pray….sometimes that’s all He asks of us..that we trust in Him…

As Mom told me this, I filled with joy…I have hope…not just in God…but in the fact that people still listen to Him and do the right thing…..It gave me great pleasure to join with my Mom on the phone in a prayer of thanksgiving..praise and prayer for the person that returned that wallet..for as it is written”When you do it unto the least of these, you do it unto Me”…
